Chimneys, which are part of heating systems, are one of the factors that pose risks to human and environmental safety. In gas-fired devices where combustion gases are expelled into the atmosphere through chimneys, various physical conditions such as the diameter, height, insulation, duct connections, and installation method of the chimneys are significant factors affecting operational safety and efficiency. Errors made during the design, manufacture, and installation of chimneys can lead to issues such as insufficient draft, leakage of exhaust gases at connection and junction points, and efficiency loss, which negatively impact human health, the environment, and energy costs. Therefore, it is crucial to carry out chimney design, installation suitability, and leakage testing for both existing and new heating devices (such as boilers, water heaters, stoves, furnaces, bread ovens, and industrial burners). Proper design, manufacturing, and installation of chimneys are important to ensure energy is used efficiently and to protect against fire hazards and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The inspections of chimneys, which are considered a part of the natural gas installation, are required by gas distribution companies to be conducted in three stages.

1) Chimney Design and Calculation Inspection: This involves evaluating the chimney design for draft adequacy according to relevant standards. A Chimney Design and Calculation Suitability Report is prepared for the approved design. This report is submitted by the authorized internal installation company to the gas distribution company. Based on this report, the gas distribution company approves the natural gas project.
2) Chimney Installation Inspection and Leakage Testing: This involves checking that the chimney installation is carried out according to the approved design and relevant standards, and performing leakage tests. After the installation inspection, a Chimney Installation Suitability Report is issued, and following the leakage test, a Chimney Leakage Test Report is provided. Gas service is then activated for the approved company or residence.
3) Periodic Chimney Inspection: This involves assessing the current condition of existing chimneys, including draft and calculation compliance, material and installation suitability, and inspecting the chimney’s path for wear and corrosion.

Our company, accredited by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK), conducts and reports suitability inspections and controls for existing and newly manufactured and installed chimneys under the TS EN ISO / IEC 17020 inspection standards, using our experienced and specialized personnel.
